Tare deal off, but Gayle completes switch

Rangers striker Marcus Gayle has today (Tuesday) completed his transfer to Watford. The former Wimbledon forward has signed for Watford on a 2-year contract in a deal worth around 900,000.

Gayle, who only joined Rangers in March of last season failed to make an impact at Ibrox and wanted away from the club after failing to settle in and only starting four games in the closing months of Rangers' season of losing their title defence to Celtic.

Markus Gayle now becomes Gianluca Vialli's seventh summer signing and is expected to be thrown straight into the starting line-up on Saturday in Watford's opening match against Manchester City at Maine Road to partner Tommy Smith, providing he is fit. He is also the last piece of the jigsaw of Vialli's expedition in the transfer market and Watford now have a squad full of depth, quality, experience and youth which is worthy of a place in the Premiership.

The signing of Gayle also shows us that this is the man that was next on the list after the number 1 man, Igli Tare. The Albanian giant was set to have talks with Watford last Monday in Lecco, Italy, however he did not show up and this was an indication to the Watford staff, excited about the signing, that the player did not wish to join Watford and in a later conversation with his agent, it was found that he had had a change of heart and decided to stay in Italy with Brescia. But now with the summer's spree of signing new players surely over, Watford can finally settle down and focus on what should be an exciting time ahead for all involved with Watford.

Fillipo Galli announced as new Watford captain

Immediately after the 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan in Lecco last Tuesday night, Watford manager Gianluca Vialli announced that his new captain will be Fillipo Galli. This comes as no shock to Hornets fans as the AC Milan legend has experience that will be difficult to match by any other player and he does have the attributes to be a great leader.

Vialli has also made his intention clear to keep Nigel Gibbs a major part of the club, of which he has been for many years, as he has named him club captain, so Gibbs will deal with everything off the pitch and this news has gone down very well with the Watford faithfull as it shows Vialli is willing to hold onto the veteran and keep him as an influencial part of Watford's future.

Allan Nielsen will act as the clubs vice-captain so he will take over the matchday captains armband if Fillipo Galli did not play for one reason or another.
